The chamber marked Thai Pongal this January with a community celebration at the Business Centre. The festival of thanks for the harvest is one of the best-loved occasions in the Tamil calendar, and it was a chance for members to relax together outside of business.
A pot, a prayer and a feast
Volunteers prepared the traditional pot of sweet pongal, and children helped to watch it boil over, a sign of abundance. Guests shared a vegetarian lunch prepared by a member-owned caterer and enjoyed music and dance by local students.
Why we celebrate together
The chamber exists to support business, but business grows from community. Celebrations like Pongal remind members of the traditions they share and give newcomers a welcoming introduction to the community. Many guests said they met new neighbours and potential partners over lunch.
- Traditional kolam designs decorated the entrance.
- Students performed songs and dances.
- Members from other cultural communities were warmly invited.
The chamber thanks the volunteers and the caterer, and the families who came. Photos are in the gallery, and the team is already planning the next community celebration. If you would like to help, let us know through the portal.
