Every chamber event, from the smallest roundtable to the gala, depends on volunteers. This month we say thank you to the people who give their time and often stay behind to stack the chairs.
What volunteers do
Volunteers greet guests at the registration desk, set up rooms, support speakers, take photographs and help new members find their way around. Others sit on committees for mentorship, events, women’s programs, youth and membership.
Why they do it
Asked why they volunteer, members gave a few common answers: to give back to the community that helped them, to meet people outside their industry, and to build skills in leadership and organising. Students said the experience helped them to find their first job.
- No experience is needed; training is provided.
- Volunteers can choose events that suit their schedule.
- The chamber provides a letter of reference for students.
